A place to vent my frustrations about living in a effed up white male dominated, ableist, capitalistic society. And if you're mean, misogynistic, or in any other way effed up I will delete you. And yes, it is at my discretion. Whine about it elsewhere.

i crawled out from under my rock to figure out what these bratz dolls were... OMG! NOW you're telling me there is a MOVIE?!?!?!
I wish there wasn't. Yes, there is a movie and from what I can tell it's all about Bratz power to take down another girl. Wonderful.
whywhywhywhywhy does a culture that pretends to be so evolved continue to embrace rubbish like this?!?!?
i took a class a few years back, gender stererotypes/racism/prejudice. my final paper was an examination of popular television programming for children - and the dangerous gender stereotypes messages they produced. it. blew. my. mind.
now i have a son, and while he is only two, i worry about what he is internalizing already. i'm very careful about what we read and what he sees, but it is still difficult. i wonder how i'm supposed to raise this little guy to not only respect women, but to instill in him a deeper understanding of his own role in empowering women.
my friend that i said went to the anti-porn conference suggested i read "refusing to be a man" by dworkin's partner, john stoltenberg. thanks for reminding me. i need to go find that today.
p/s - i'm adding you to my blogroll. savvy?
It's my pleasure!
I saw the poster the other day. The one positive thing Bratz *do* have going for them is that there's some racial diversity going on amongst the dolls. The girls they've cast, though, are about a dozen shades lighter.
don't even get me started. eh.
