More dance

I'm in a dance induced euphoria. So you'll be getting nothing but dance from me today. I have comments and will be watching Hillary tomorrow where I am sure she WILL NOT concede, but rather endorse and suspend her campaign (yes, she can do that

I posted the Janet Jackson song that my hip hop routine is to (well there are a few of us). Here's another one (not a hip hop routine). It's not a video, just a picture with a song playing:

I've been nominated for a Canadian F-Word blog award!

Apparently someone nominated me (THANKS!) and there will be the first round of voting the 15th and 16th, so vote for me! You can vote for me here in the "Best Canadian Feminist Blog" category. I'm really excited to check out the other nominees, maybe my reading list will grow.

GO VOTE!!! (I think it's on PST, since it's almost 11 here and voting hasn't opened. Remember, voting closes at midnight PST February 16th.

Moore method sucks, but...

SNOW!!!!!!!!!!! SNOWSNOWSNOWSNOWSNOWSNOWSNOW 1-2 inches tonight predicted.

You know what, Rice's applied mathematics programs look AWESOME, but I don't know if I can handle more years (what 5, 6 for a PhD?) without snow. Or tons of leaves and brisk weather in fall or thunderstorms in spring. Hot summers they do have. Nothing makes me happier then taking a nice long snow walk.

Oh, and SNOW!!!!!!!!

EDITED TO ADD: I just saw the forecast for tomorrow!!!! Scattered snow showers with snow becoming steadier and heavier late in the day. Thunder possible. High 37F. Winds SW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 80%. Snow accumulating 1 to 2 inches.

Did you see that! Snow AND Thunder! I will be in HEAVEN!!!! There will be dancing and rejoicing and I will be able to (temporarily) forget the evilness of my math classes.

I like it

I have just treated myself to an Arthur Dent day and I highly recommend it. People may look at you funny, but it just feels so good.

I will be having more of these in the future, especially since I live in the land of eternal spring/fall. mmmmmmmmmm

In the market for some art?

I just "opened" my store on Etsy.com, a place to buy all handmade items sold by the artists themselves. My store is here, and more prints will be added, as well as photos, and the photos will be $20 and under (depending on whether it's on fiber paper (which needs to be mounted) and RC paper, which doesn't. Price depends on size). So if you want to support me, but can't afford it just wait a little while. Knit items and hand spun yarn will be coming soon as well (though after the holidays)

Tell your friends! Support artists! (even if you choose not to buy from me, you should buy from the other artists. I buy almost everything from there!)

Happy plant blogging

Meet Harold, the first plant I bought for my apartment. I was feeling depressed and I thought, hey, I know what will make me happy: a rubber tree plant! I love them so much.

Plants I need to name. Anyone know what the name of the plant on the left? I know the other two are Hens and Chicks.

My New Guinea Impatiens. I haven't named it yet, but I think it needs one.

The Love Lies Bleeding (on the left) does not have a name because I like it's name so much.

This is Melvin, my birthday present. (I have a thing for carnivorous plants). I've been told that I like to name my plants "old man names," but I really like the names of my plants.

Happy day!

We got the grant!

Now I will actually be paid for helping to rewrite the calculus based physics labs. I got the short stick and am TAing the 8 am lab. Yay for me. Oh, and for the department and the students.

I hope I'm not overwhelmed by it all.

It's officially summer

How do I know? Well it was warm enough to sit by the lake and even *GASP* go swimming. I read the entire book "The Swallows of Kabul" sitting on the dock in the sun. READ this book. It is beautifully written, I couldn't put it down, and it is a haunting story, but one that should be read. I plan on reading his second and third books in the trilogy, "The Attack" and "The Sirens of Baghdad", respectively. Tommorrow is Friday so as soon as I finish my quiz I am off to the lake to read more.

I'm also nicely tan (I am 2nd gen Sicilian, we get dark fast) and not wearing pants (well, I'm wearing short pants, or capris, or whatever they're called. I don't like shorts b/c they're such an American thing (N+S))

I also got to avoid everything I wanted to for the most part yesterday by meeting my friends at another lake where we hiked a few miles in to avoid people. (It was good timing too, because people started showing up at my usually quiet dock right when I was going to meet them). And we built a rock bench in the water. I feel my muscles growing all ready. I wish I had a picture....it looks AWESOME. (Next time we go I promise to get a picture
