I don't think it's possible for a candidate to only win one state in a general election where the two candidates are nearly even in the popular vote. Nixon led Mcgovern by about 23 points in the general election. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election%2C_1972
I don't think it makes sense to compare Obama vs Mccain to Nixon vs Mcgovern. as i said before. Nixon was invincible.

That's popular vote, I suggest you look at the electoral maps. Popular vote don't matter it's how many electoral votes you get, duh.

No, Nixon was very unpopular going into the 1972 election. That's what makes it so apt. Sure, Obama's popular...in states he'll never carry.
