i took a class a few years back, gender stererotypes/racism/prejudice. my final paper was an examination of popular television programming for children - and the dangerous gender stereotypes messages they produced. it. blew. my. mind.

now i have a son, and while he is only two, i worry about what he is internalizing already. i'm very careful about what we read and what he sees, but it is still difficult. i wonder how i'm supposed to raise this little guy to not only respect women, but to instill in him a deeper understanding of his own role in empowering women.

my friend that i said went to the anti-porn conference suggested i read "refusing to be a man" by dworkin's partner, john stoltenberg. thanks for reminding me. i need to go find that today.; 29/7/07 11:59
